Turner Locker Barnfield acted letting the space for the original developer before acting for Quintain PLC in acquiring the investment in the mid 90’s. We later sold the property for them to investors from Cheltenham whilst we retained the management. Some years later we sold the building again to a wealth management fund who in their turn retained us to manage and let any vacant office or retail space. When then fund was being closed we acted for the current owner. Producing an income of circa £250,000pa the building will continue to be managed by Turner Locker Barnfield Ltd and recent letting and rent reviews we have carried out are showing solid rental growth again in Exeter’s rising office market.

Turner Locker Barnfield have had a long involvement with Notaries House which from both a historical and an architectural perspective is an important building near Exeter Cathedral. Its history is fascinating and its surviving architectural features are of a high quality. The property's story dates back at least to the first decades of the 15th century. Notaries House stands on the site of what was once part of a group of buildings occupied by members of the Cathedral's clergy and which were constructed between c1410 to c1430 Now currently in use as luxury commercial office and studio space Sarah Treble talks with Turner Locker Barnfield about her experience running her high quality wedding dress design business from the Georgian building. TLB: How did you find out about Notaries House Exeter? ST: "I saw the downstairs suite advertised on the Turner Locker website and was able to choose my suite while the building was being developed." TLB: Has being here helped your business ST: "The location is brilliant, the fact that it is between the Cathedral and Princesshay is perfect for me. "The actual building is what first drew me to it, I love Georgian buildings and it’s important to me that where I have my business is a building of character. People love it when they come in." Initially Sarah relocated her business from London to office space in Topsham -Devon. However it seems like the further move into commercial property so close to both the Cathedral and Princesshay in Exeter has been great for her. TLB: Does having a good location add value? ST: "It really does, I think it’s really important to have that feeling of style and luxury. "I take myself more seriously than I did when I was above the chemist in Topsham and I think other people do too."

Locating a Media Business in Exeter

Sophie Hancox of Aquamarine Media explains why the agency looked to move into Exeter and what was so appealing about this creative shared office environment. "We first became aware of the Generator Hub after a meeting with a client who was already renting a desk here. Straight away, we picked up on the atmosphere – there was a real ‘creative buzz’ in the air that we hadn’t found in any other office we had visited. We also thought the space itself was something quite unique to Exeter and perfect for an agency like Aquamarine Media! "Moving to the Generator has allowed us to take the ‘next step’ as an agency and has created many opportunities for us. Since we moved here February we’ve made some fantastic new contacts and it’s certainly boosted our brand profile. Even though there are several similar businesses in the same space, there’s no sense of competition, instead everyone is very supportive of each other." Exeter commercial property specialists Turner Locker Barnfield have had a long-term relationship with Kings Wharf as Mark Turner describes; "As commercial property management specialists we have looked after Kings Wharf for great many years, running the buildings service charge and day to day running and maintenance. We acted letting the space for the original developer before acting for Quintain PLC in acquiring the investment in the mid 90’s. We later sold the property for them to investors from Cheltenham whilst retained the management. Some years later we sold the building again to a Wealth management fund who in their turn retained us to manage and let any vacant office or retail space. When then fund was being closed we acted for the current owner." Aquamarine's recent launch demonstrates the modern appeal of this creative space.
